about

“After a few successful EPs released through the Audio Gourmet netlabel, I decided to expand the label a little by releasing full length albums. I had completed an album called ‘Decompose’ and rather than find a label to commission it, I decided to try self-releasing it through Audio Gourmet as I felt that it follows on naturally from the Rust EP. For Decompose, I experimented with acoustic instruments ran through granular synthesis to give a grainy, textured feel through all of the different layers. So the original musical recordings were fed into the software and spat back out randomly, in effect ‘decomposing’ my compositions. I wanted to portray the fraying particles of the decay process by allowing tiny fragments of sound to culminate as a whole. It is slightly less musical than Rust although there is plenty of melody throughout. In reviews, the first thing they picked up on was how light the sounds were, despite the dark themes of disintegration…This was because again, like in Rust, I was thinking of decay from the perspective of a soul-less inanimate object – perhaps a building or vehicle, with its splintering shards of matter recycling into the earth’s atmosphere. Plans for a bio-degradable physical re-issue are not out of the question…”
