about

“I recorded Frozen Quarters throughout much of 2009 when I started renting my first house. It documents the seasons and their events as they changed and freezes them forever, in a sort of audio vault. Since I knew it would be temporary given the nature of renting a property, I wanted to capture this experience somehow so that I could look back in years to come with fond nostalgia. I have succeeded, as the more that time goes by the more I grow sentimental towards this album. To start with, I have since moved several times! Listening back to the album now, I can hear the sounds of household objects that I no longer own, the tapping on drinking glasses that have since dropped to the ground and smashed, the shaking of rice that has been consumed, instruments that have broken and been thrown away and the melodies that transport me back to that period of time. The opening track ‘Vignette’ was recorded inside a skip at my old workplace, which has since been closed down and the skip removed from the site. As odd and amusing that it seemed at the time – especially to my former colleagues, the more fitting it has become now it is no longer there. To you the listener, this sentimentality will not mean much but it is my hope that you will listen and reflect nostalgically on your first home.”-Harry Towell (Spheruleus)
